How to get instant refund for wrong UPI payment? Steps to lodge a complaint

Unified Payments Interface (UPI ) has promoted digital payments. Now UPI can be used for payments ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 50,000. Users can transfer money ( UPI Transfer ) and make payments with security in a moment.

Many times users mistakenly transfer money to another UPI ID. In such a case, you need to panic. You can also easily get a refund by filing a complaint on the NPCI portal.

After making payment on the wrong UPI ID, you should first call the customer service center of the bank. You can also contact the UPI service provider (toll free number 18001201740). Here you will have to provide complete details of your payment. As per the rules of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), after providing complete details of the payment, you can get a refund from the payment service provider.

Register complaint on NPCI portal

You can complain by visiting the NPCI portal.

  • To lodge a complaint, you will have to visit the official website of NPCI
  • After this select Get in touch.
  • Now enter all the details like name, email id.
  • After submitting the details, click on Dispute Redressal Mechanism.
  • You have to go to the complaint section and enter the transaction details.
  • Now check the information like UPI transaction ID, virtual payment address, amount transferred, date of transaction, email ID and mobile number etc. correctly.
  • After this, give the reason and select Incorrectly transferred to another account.

When to complain

You should complain as soon as possible after a wrong transaction. It is better to complain within three days of the transaction. If you complain after this time limit, there is no guarantee of getting a refund.
