As the elections in Bihar approach, political and administrative activities have intensified regarding the scrutiny of the voter list. Questions have been raised from the role of Aadhaar card to voter identity. In such a situation, the biggest issue has become – which documents will be reliable proof of your being an Indian citizen? Know which documents will confirm your citizenship in the screening of the voter list and other important aspects related to this investigation.
Why is screening of voter list necessary?
There are about 8 crore voters in Bihar, in whose list many irregularities are found. These include duplicate names, names of deceased persons, and names of ineligible people, which affect the fairness and credibility of the election. Therefore, revision of voter list is going on in Bihar, which aims to remove these flaws. According to reports, the number of Aadhaar card holders in some districts is more than the population, which raises suspicion that illegal immigrants have also been included in the voter list fraudulently. The Election Commission is starting this special screening under Article 326 of the Constitution so that only Indian citizens are registered in the voter list.
What are the documents accepted in screening?
It is very important to know which documents will be accepted to prove Indian citizenship during screening. First of all, it should be clear that Aadhaar card is not a primary identity document but only a supplementary one. Therefore, other documents are necessary to prove citizenship.
