The Delhi government and the National Health Authority (NHA) may soon sign an agreement to implement the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).

This scheme is the country’s largest government health insurance scheme, which provides free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh every year to poor and needy families. Under this scheme, patients can get treatment in both government and private hospitals. The Delhi government has announced to add an additional Rs 5 lakh to it, which will provide a total health cover of up to Rs 10 lakh to the people of Delhi.

The government is working fast to implement this scheme. Master trainers and Asha workers are being trained to enroll people and make Ayushman Bharat cards. This will enable millions of people to avail better health services.

People of Delhi will get insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh

The Delhi government has announced to give an additional Rs 5 lakh under this scheme, which will provide a total health cover of up to Rs 10 lakh to the residents of the capital. In this, Rs 5 lakh will be given by the central government and Rs 5 lakh by the Delhi government.

The first step to implementing the plan

The first step towards implementing the Ayushman Bharat scheme is to sign an MoU between the state government and the NHA under the central government. The NHA will be the nodal agency responsible for implementing the scheme across the country, which will ensure that the scheme works properly and people get the benefits on time.

State health agency will be formed

According to officials, a State Health Agency (SHA) will soon be formed, which will be responsible for implementing the scheme in Delhi. The SHA will handle the day-to-day work of the scheme and ensure that the right people are enrolled.

Master trainers and ASHA workers will be given training

Currently, master trainers are being trained to make new Ayushman Bharat cards. After this, these trainers will train Asha workers and other health workers so that they can help people register in this scheme and make Ayushman Bharat cards.

Target to enroll 100,000 beneficiaries

According to officials, a target has been set to enroll at least 1 lakh eligible beneficiaries under this scheme in the next 30 days. 6.54 lakh poor families in Delhi will get health coverage up to Rs 5 lakh under this scheme.

Senior citizens will also get benefits

The Delhi government has also announced that more than 4.5 lakh families of people above the age of 70 years will get the benefit of this scheme. This will also include those families who are already eligible for this scheme due to their financial condition.

Announcement made after cabinet meeting

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the expansion of the scheme after her first cabinet meeting on Thursday. She said the Delhi government will provide an additional cover of Rs 5 lakh to those eligible under the scheme, taking the total health cover of Delhiites to Rs 10 lakh.
