There is good news for those traveling between Ahmedabad and Mumbai in Gujarat. From August 15, the journey from Ahmedabad to Mumbai will take less time. From August 15, all trains on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route will run at a speed of 160 kmph.
According to Western Railways, the speed of trains like Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, IRCTC Tejas, Double Decker and Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route will increase from 130 kmph to 160 kmph. The railway administration has finalized the action plan for this upgrade. The upgradation work will be completed by June 30.
What will be the speed where?
On the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route, trains will run at a speed of 160 kmph between Virar and Surat and then to Ahmedabad. The speed from Mumbai Central to Borivali will be adjusted to 100 kmph and between Borivali and Virar to 110 kmph. According to Western Railway, under the Mission Raftar initiative, the railways had earlier planned to increase the speed of trains between major cities. The Railway Safety Commissioner (CRS) will inspect in July 2024 to approve the speed upgrade. After this, the speed of trains will be increased.

The deadline is June 30
Western Railway has tightened and improved this entire route to increase the speed of trains. For this, technology has also been improved. OHE along the track has been made more advanced. Not only this, Kavach technology has been implemented. The Railway Board has directed the divisional railway managers (DRMs) to complete all pending works by June 30, including necessary track blocks. Major infrastructure improvements done so far include barricade-fencing on 565 km of track, track upgradation, signaling improvements on 126 railway bridges and overhead wire installation.
Journey will end 45 minutes earlier
After the speed of trains increases from 130 to 160, the Vande Bharat Express which currently takes 5.25 hours, will reduce its travel time to 4.40 hours at the speed of 160 kmph. Similarly, travel time of Shatabdi Express will be reduced from 5.50 hours to 4.50 hours. Travel time of IRCTC Tejas Express will be reduced from 6.25 hours to 5.50 hours. Travel time of Double Decker will be reduced from 6.55 hours to 6.15 hours and travel time of Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani will be reduced from 15.32 hours to 12 hours.
