The Union Cabinet has approved five infrastructure projects to enhance intra-city connectivity through metro rail in Karnataka and Maharashtra and improve air connectivity in Bihar and North West Bengal.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said the government has approved infrastructure projects worth about Rs 2 lakh crore since taking charge in June. He said it was clear that the government’s priority was to generate employment and push economic growth.
Assembly elections are to be held in Maharashtra later this year. The Prime Minister said in a post on Instagram that we are constantly making efforts to ensure that Maharashtra gets modern infrastructure. The Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the third phase of the Bangalore Metro Rail Project, which includes two elevated corridors. Its length will be 44.65 km and it will have 31 stations.
Work will be done on these projects
Corridor 1 will connect the city’s J.P. Nagar Phase IV to Kempapura (along Outer Ring Road West), with a length of 32.15 km and will have 22 stations. Corridor 2 from Hosahalli to Kadabagere (along Magadi Road) will have nine stations over a length of 12.5 km. The project cost is Rs 15,611 crore, but Phase III, once operational, will add 220.2 km of metro rail network in the southern city, the Cabinet said in a statement.

The Cabinet also approved the Swargate to Katraj underground line extension of the existing PCMC-Swargate metro line of the Pune Metro Phase-1 project.
This is the focus of the government
This new extension, called Line-1B Extension, will span 5.46 km and include three underground stations, connecting key areas such as Market Yard, Bibwewadi, Balaji Nagar and Katraj suburbs. The project, which is expected to be completed by February 2029, is estimated to cost ₹2,954.53 crore, with funds to be shared equally by the Centre and Maharashtra governments, as well as contributions from bilateral agencies.
