Monsoon has knocked in many states of the country and many states are still waiting for the monsoon to arrive. On the other hand, torrential rains in the mountains have caused disaster.
Due to continuous rains in Kedarnath, Badrinath and Gangotri, landslides have occurred in many places. Apart from this, cloudburst and heavy rains have caused devastation in many places in Himachal Pradesh.
Amidst all this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in many states of the country for the next seven days. Red alert has been issued in many areas, and people have been advised to remain alert.
Which states are likely to receive heavy rains?
According to the IMD, the states that may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next seven days include:
- Coastal Karnataka
- Eastern Rajasthan
- Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi
- Himachal Pradesh
- Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh
- Madhya Pradesh and Central Maharashtra
- Kerala and Mahe
- Punjab
- Uttarakhand
- Western Uttar Pradesh
- Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal
Extremely heavy rainfall may also occur at some places in these areas.
States with red alert
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert especially for three districts of Kerala. Many low-lying areas have been submerged due to heavy rains here.
Apart from this, extremely heavy rainfall is also expected in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Odisha, where floods, landslides, and waterlogging are expected.
Rain forecast in Northeast and other states as well
Heavy rains are also expected at isolated places in these states:
- Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya
- Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and West Bengal (Ganga region)
- Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
- Konkan and Goa, Vidarbha
- Saurashtra and Kutch (Gujarat)
- Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura
Cloud burst incidents: 7 people died
On Thursday, cloudburst incidents in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir caused massive devastation.
- Many bridges, roads and houses were washed away in Himachal Pradesh.
- Three people, including two children, were killed in cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Kathua districts.
- Four others were rescued safely.
- Flash floods caused by these events affected several villages and towns.

The IMD urges people to:
- Keep an eye on weather updates
- Avoid unnecessary travel
- Avoid going to low lying areas and river banks
- Contact the administration if necessary
- Keep an eye on the possibility of holidays in schools and colleges
