New Delhi. Delhi Airport has become the first airport in the country to achieve net zero carbon emission status. It has achieved this target under the accreditation program of Airport Council International. Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) gave this information on Wednesday. GMR Group-led DIAL operates the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital.
The airport initially aimed to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030. But the target has been achieved well ahead of schedule through various measures including the use of renewable energy, development of green airport infrastructure and promotion of electric vehicles.
DIAL said that Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGAI) has become the first airport in India to achieve net zero carbon emission airport status under the ‘Airport Carbon Accreditation’ programme of Airport Council International (ACI).
Videh Kumar Jaipuria, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DIAL, said, “With the achievement of level five net zero emission accreditation in 2024, we have once again demonstrated our commitment towards continuous improvement and environmentally friendly initiatives.”
