Central employees may get good news on Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR). The new Narendra Modi government has received a proposal to release 18 months of arrears during Covid-19. Shiv Gopal Mishra, Secretary, Joint Consultative Machinery, National Council (Employee Side) for Central Government Employees has written a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In this letter, it has been requested to release 18 months of DA arrears.
An appeal had been made earlier too
Earlier, Mukesh Singh, general secretary of the Bharatiya Pratiraksha Mazdoor Sangh, had urged the central government to release the payment. In a letter addressed to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Singh said that I understand the challenges posed by the Covid pandemic and the economic disruptions caused by it. However, our country is gradually recovering from the impact of the pandemic. It is a matter of joy to see the improvement in the financial condition of the country. Let us tell you that in view of the pandemic, the central government had stopped the payment of DA and DR for 18 months from January 2020 to June 2021.

Let us tell you that DA is reviewed by the Central Government twice a year in January and July. The dearness allowance of central government employees was increased to 50% from January 1, 2024. When DA reaches 50%, some allowances like House Rent Allowance (HRA) are also revised.
The increase in March
In March, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the release of additional installment of DA and DR. Under this, 4 percent increase was made at the rate of 46 percent of basic salary / pension. This was for January to June. This is benefiting about 49.18 lakh central government employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners. At the same time, central employees are waiting for the allowance for the July to December half year.
