Fake Ration Card: If you are also a ration card holder and are taking advantage of the government’s cheap or free ration scheme every month, then this news is useful for you. Yes, the Union Food Ministry has informed that 5.8 crore fake ration cards have been canceled.

All this has been made possible by running a digitization drive. There has been a lot of change in the Public Distribution System (PDS) in the country and 5.8 crore fake ration cards have been canceled. This has set new standards for food security programs at the global level.

In a statement issued by the ministry, it was told that as part of the reform in the PDS system that serves 80.6 crore beneficiaries, 5.8 crore fake ration cards could be removed through verification through Aadhaar and electronic e-KYC system. According to the statement, ‘After these efforts, the irregularities have reduced significantly and success has been achieved in reaching the right people.’ According to the ministry, almost all 20.4 crore ration cards have been digitized. Of these, 99.8 percent are linked to Aadhaar and the identity of 98.7 percent beneficiaries has been verified through biometrics.

5.33 lakh e-POS equipment installed

According to the statement, 5.33 lakh e-POS equipment have been installed at fair price shops across the country. Through this, during the distribution of grains, along with verification through Aadhaar, it is being ensured that the ration is distributed to the right person. The ministry said, ‘Today, about 98 percent of the total grain is distributed using verification through Aadhaar. This has helped in separating the ineligible beneficiaries and reducing black marketing.’

Verification of 64 per cent of PDS beneficiaries complete:

64 per cent of the total PDS beneficiaries have already been verified through the government’s e-KYC initiative. For the remaining beneficiaries, the process is underway at ration shops across the country. On the supply side, the ministry said, Food Corporation of India (FCI) has implemented a supply management system for sending food grains to the right place, including an integrated vehicle monitoring system with railways for real-time monitoring of food supplies. The ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme has made ‘portability’ of ration cards possible across the country.

You can get ration anywhere in the country

The ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme has allowed beneficiaries to get ration anywhere in the country using their existing cards. The ministry said, “The government has set a global standard for food security initiatives through digitisation, correct identification of beneficiaries and innovation in the supply system.” The digital transformation includes the entire PDS system from procurement to distribution. This has ensured distribution to real beneficiaries while eliminating fake cards and incorrect entries in the system.
