Bank Holiday: Banks are going to remain closed for three days in many states of the country. War has broken out between India and Pakistan. In such a situation, millions of people have this question in their minds that will the banks remain closed or will the banks function normally? Banks are going to remain closed for 3 days in most of the states of the country. Know the reason here.

Banks will remain closed for 3 days in Kolkata

Banks in West Bengal will remain closed for three consecutive days from May 9 to May 11, 2025. This long weekend falls on Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary, second Saturday and Sunday. There will be no work in bank branches during this time, so customers will have to plan in advance to make transactions.

What is the reason for the three-day holiday?

May 9 (Friday): Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary

The birth anniversary of Nobel laureate and great poet of Bengal Rabindranath Tagore is being celebrated on 9 May. Banks, government offices and many private institutions remain closed on this occasion. Programmes like music, drama and poetry recitation are organised across the state.

May 10 (Saturday): Second Saturday

According to the rules of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month across the country. Under this rule, banking services will remain closed across the country including Bengal on May 10.

11 May(Sunday): Weekly Holiday

Every Sunday, all banks across the country remain closed as a regular holiday. Thus, it becomes a series of three-day bank holidays in West Bengal.

May 12 (Monday): Buddha Purnima

Buddha Purnima is the most sacred festival for the followers of Buddhism, which is celebrated as the birth, enlightenment (Bodhi) and Mahaparinirvana day of Lord Gautam Buddha. This festival falls on the full moon day of Vaishakh month and is celebrated with reverence and peace in many Asian countries including India. Banks will remain closed in most states due to Buddha Purnima.
