Air India will introduce premium economy class on select domestic routes

Air India airline has made a new announcement for its passengers. The airline is going to start the facility of premium economy class for its passengers on some domestic routes.

This facility will be started by Air India from July 2024. So far, Vistara is the only Indian airline that provides premium economy service to its passengers with domestic flights.

According to a latest report by news agency PTI, the decision taken by the company is being taken to make the travel of passengers convenient.

Company’s Chief Executive Officer Wilson gave information

Speaking on the occasion, Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Air India said that the introduction of three-class cabins and interior remodelling in Air India’s narrow-body fleet is key to enhancing the flying experience.

He said the narrow-body fleet that operates on domestic and short-haul international networks complements the wide-body experience.

The feature will now be available for all other wide-body planes except the A350 fleet and the new B777s as they are retrofitted over the next two years.

Service will start for flights on these routes

Air India’s A320neo aircraft will now offer a new Business, an all-new Premium Economy and a new Economy cabin experience on domestic and short-haul international routes.

The airline will currently offer premium economy seats on Delhi Chandigarh-Delhi and Delhi Bengaluru-Delhi routes.

The Tata Group-owned airline said it has taken delivery of two new A320neo aircraft in a three-class configuration.

It has 8 seats in business class, 24 seats with extra legroom in premium economy class and 132 seats in economy class.

What are the airline’s future plans?

Air India plans to introduce the three-class configuration across its entire full-service narrow-body fleet by next year.

Existing aircraft are now gradually being inducted for refit, while new aircraft joining the fleet will be delivered with the new Air India experience.

Earlier this month, Wilson had said Air India would induct over 100 aircraft, including 40 wide-body planes.

40-inch ergonomic seats in the new business cabin

According to the information provided by the company, the new business cabin has 40-inch ergonomic seats. These have a 7-inch deep recline, an adjustable armrest, footrest and backrest, a tray table that can be opened at the press of a button. It includes a PED holder and has multiple charging ports.

While the new Premium Economy class features larger seats with four-way headrests, wider seat pitch of 32 inches with 4-inch recline and other features like PED holders and USB charging ports.
