RBI : Soon all the banks of the country will shift to ‘.bank.in’ domain. RBI has taken a big step towards making digital banking safe and reliable.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has asked all the banks to shift their net banking websites to the ‘.bank.in’ domain as soon as possible. RBI has issued a circular in this regard today and clarified that this process should be completed by October 31, 2025 at any cost.
Why is this change necessary?
RBI said that this step has been taken to prevent increasing cases of digital fraud and fake banking websites and to increase trust in digital banking among the general public. This domain was announced in February 2025, in which it was also told that in future ‘fin.in’ domain will also be started for financial institutions.
Who will do the registration?
The ‘.bank.in’ domain will be operated by IDRBT (Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology). The institute will be the registrar under NIXI (National Internet Exchange of India) and MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and IT). Banks can contact sahyog@idrbt.ac.in to initiate the process. IDRBT will assist banks in the entire process of registration and migration.
