The third annual Digital Life Certificate campaign began on November 1 and will continue till November 30. According to a report by the Indian Express, the Department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare (DoPPW) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions is organising 1,900 camps to help pensioners create their DLC. However, pensioners who prefer to physically visit post offices or banks to submit their life certificates can continue to do so.
How many pensioners in the country
DoPPW data shows that as of March 31 this year, there were 64.88 crore central government pensioners, including 10.09 lakh civilian pensioners, 31.92 lakh defense pensioners, 15.25 lakh railway pensioners, 4.56 lakh telecom pensioners and 3.04 lakh postal pensioners. A total of 1.47 crore certificates were generated during last year’s DLC campaign, including certificates of 45.46 lakh central government pensioners.
DoPPW sources say that more than 50 lakh central government pensioners may appear in the camps this November. How to submit The Jeevan Pramaan portal uses Aadhaar for biometric authentication, which pensioners can do in person or by visiting a camp. Face authentication has been added as an option from 2021.
To generate DLC, pensioners must have an Aadhaar and a mobile number linked to it and their Aadhaar must be registered with the pension disbursing authority. If they choose to do it on their own (without visiting the camp) using the Jeevan Pramaan app or website, they will also need a biometric (fingerprint scanning) device. The camps are being organised in 800 cities and towns across the country and Indian missions abroad. Different post offices and banks are setting up their own camps.
