New SIM Card Rules: New rules for changing SIM card will be applicable from today

New changes made in the mobile number portability rules are being implemented in the country from July 1.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had issued the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations 2024 on March 14 this year. New rules regarding SIM swap will come into effect from today. According to the new rules, there will now be a waiting period of 7 days after the SIM swap.

According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, the new changes made in the mobile number portability rules will come into effect from today i.e. July 1.

A statement issued by TRAI said that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has issued the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations, 2024 on March 14, 2024.

This new change in the rules is coming into effect from the beginning of this month.

Why there was a change in the mobile number portability rules Actually, the change in mobile number portability rules has been made to eliminate frauds related to SIM swap and replacement.

According to TRAI, SIM swap or replacement means a process in which a new SIM is purchased due to loss of the old SIM or its non-functioning. This SIM is given to the old customer on the same number as the old SIM.

Customers can switch from one service provider to another without changing their number as per Mobile Number Portability rules.
