New Fastag Rules 2025: Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has made a new announcement. Now a new annual pass linked to FASTag will be available. This annual pass is for those who frequently travel on the National Highway. This pass will be applicable from August 15, 2025.
The pass will cost Rs 3,000. It is specifically for private, non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans. The pass will be valid for one year or 200 trips (whichever is completed first) after activation. Users will be able to activate and renew their pass through a special section on the National Highways app and the official portals of NHAI and MoRTH.
How much benefit do people get?
The purpose of this pass is to reduce the problems faced at toll plazas. Especially for those who live within 60 km radius of the toll plaza. It often happens that people living nearby also have to pay toll. This pass will provide them relief.
Currently, people who pass through a particular toll plaza repeatedly can get a monthly pass by submitting address proof and necessary documents. The cost of these passes is Rs 340 per month, which becomes Rs 4,080 per year.
What is the government’s aim?
The government believes that this pass will reduce the crowd at toll plazas. There will also be fewer fights over toll. Private vehicles will be able to run faster on the highway. The government wants everything to become digital. This will provide convenience to the people and the roads will also become modern. All this is being done to increase the convenience of the users on the national highway grid.
How much income from toll?
Data shows that out of the total toll revenue of Rs 55,000 crore in 2023-24, private cars contributed only Rs 8,000 crore. Analysis of toll transactions shows that private cars account for 53% of the toll plazas but contribute only 21% of the revenue. Moreover, private vehicles account for about 60% of the traffic between 6 am and 10 pm, while commercial vehicles ply both day and night.
