Indira Gandhi International Airport, which started in the 1930s, is once again in the news today. The reason behind it being in the news is that a large part of the roof at Terminal-1 fell on vehicles and people. So far, 1 person has died and 6 are injured in this incident. This airport is counted among the busiest airports in the country, from where hundreds of flights take off in a day.

Due to this, the airport management has now taken a big decision and has cancelled all flights from Terminal-1 and has also closed the check-in counters. Now the biggest question here is whether the passengers whose flights have been cancelled will get a refund or will the airline company provide them with another flight.

What does the rule say?

According to the rule, in case of flight cancellation, the airline will either provide an alternate flight to the customer or will give compensation along with full refund of the flight ticket. Apart from this, the airline will also provide food to those passengers who were present at the airport while waiting for another alternate flight. According to the rule of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), in case of flight delay, the airline will have to provide meals and refreshments to its customers. Apart from this, it is necessary to give full refund of alternate flight/ticket or hotel to the passenger.

You get this many times refund

In case of overbooking of seats, the airline must first ask the volunteers to vacate their seats. If a passenger refuses to board the flight, the airline must provide a replacement flight within one hour. If this is not possible, the airline has to pay 200% of the flight ticket, i.e. almost 2 times, plus an airline fuel surcharge, which is limited to Rs 10,000.

If the next flight is after 24 hours, then the airline will have to pay up to 400% of the fare. According to DGCA, if you have paid in cash, then the airline will have to refund immediately. Apart from this, if you have paid by credit card, the money will have to be returned within 7 days.

How to complain

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has also provided a facility to complain against airline companies. This complaint has to be made when airline companies harass you regarding ticket refund, then you can complain directly by visiting DGCA’s site https://www.dgca.gov.in/digigov-portal/.
