What is the new change?

Indian Railways can now amend the criteria for general ticket booking. Under the new system, the name of the train will be recorded on the general ticket, due to which passengers will not be able to travel in any other train.

These conditions will apply to general tickets

  • Option to change train ends: Now the ticket of one train will not be valid for another.
  • Ticket Time Limit: The validity of general ticket will be only 3 hours. If the passenger does not start the journey within this time limit then the ticket will become invalid.
  • Crowd control at station: After the recent incidents of overcrowding and stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, the railways have decided to tighten the rules.

Passengers will be affected

  • Now you will have to choose the correct train before booking the ticket.
  • The facility to change trains may end suddenly.
  • This will help in preventing unnecessary crowd, making travel more smooth and safe.

Current rules for buying railway general tickets

Currently, under the unreserved ticket system (UTS) of Indian Railways, passengers can buy general tickets through the station’s ticket counter or UTS mobile app. This ticket is usually valid according to the date and route of travel. Passengers can travel in any train on the same route. Provided, the ticket has not expired. Currently, the validity of a general ticket is usually from 3 to 24 hours, which may vary according to the distance of travel and the railway zone.
