Centre’s health coverage scheme for elderly above 70 under Ayushman Bharat: All you need to know

PMJAY Ayushman Card for Senior Citizens: The central government has given a huge gift to the elderly of the country. Now the elderly of 70 years and above in the country will also come under the purview of Ayushman Bharat Scheme.

This scheme is also called Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). This scheme, which provides free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh, is the world’s largest publicly funded health benefit scheme. What benefits will the elderly get?

Under this scheme, Ayushman card holders get free treatment for all major diseases. Beneficiaries can avail cashless and paperless health services in more than 29,000 listed hospitals across the country. The government provides health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh under this scheme.

Which diseases can be treated?

Under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, eligible persons get free treatment for many types of diseases. It also includes serious problems like cancer, heart disease, kidney diseases, corona, cataract, dengue, chikungunya, malaria, knee and hip transplant etc. Earlier, 1760 types of diseases were treated under this scheme, but later 196 diseases from this list were removed from the list of treatment in private hospitals. These included many diseases including cataract, surgical delivery, and malaria. However, Ayushman beneficiaries can still get free treatment for these diseases in government hospitals.

Can I get surgery done?

Under the Ayushman Yojana, the elderly can also get surgeries like prostate cancer, double valve replacement, coronary artery bypass, pulmonary valve replacement, knee and hip replacement, skull base surgery, tissue expander, pediatric surgery, radiation oncology, neurosurgery, angioplasty with stent. These surgeries can also be done in any private hospital listed under the scheme.

How to make Ayushman card

Now coming to the issue, how to get Ayushman card? For this, you will have to check eligibility first. You can check your eligibility by visiting the official website https://pmjay.gov.in/. On the homepage of the website, you will find the option ‘Am I Eligible’, you can check your eligibility by following the further steps there. Apart from this, you can also find out your eligibility by calling the toll-free number-14555.

This is the process to get the card

If you are eligible for Ayushman Bharat Yojana, then you will have to apply by going to the Common Service Center (CSC). Meanwhile, you will also be asked for documents like Aadhar card, PAN card, driving license, voter ID, government identity card etc. Take these documents with you. After applying, you can track the Ayushman card online and it can also be downloaded.

Know this important thing too

After the decision to include the elderly in this scheme, one more important thing you should know is that all senior citizens aged 70 years and above, irrespective of their social and economic status, will be eligible to avail the benefits of this scheme. If someone in the family is already included in the Ayushman Bharat scheme and there is an elderly person above 70 years of age in his family, then that elderly person will get separate coverage of up to 5 lakhs.
