The Income Tax Department has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2023-24 by 15 days to December 15.
The due date for furnishing income tax returns under section 139(1) of the Income Tax Act, 1961 is November 30 in case of taxpayers who are required to furnish reports referred to in section 92E. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has now extended the deadline for assessment year 2024-25 to December 15, 2024, an official order said. The deadline for filing income tax returns has been extended for taxpayers who have international transactions and are required to furnish reports under section 92E.
What to do if there is delay in getting refund?
If your ITR refund is delayed, the first thing you should do is check the status on the Income Tax e-filing portal. This will let you know the current stage of processing and any issues that need your attention. If the delay is too long and unexplained, you can lodge a complaint through the ‘e-Nivaran’ section on the e-filing portal or contact the CPC helpline for updates. If a refund fails due to mismatch of bank account, first update the bank details in the Income Tax portal and then request for re-issue of tax refund.
Request again to issue refund
For this, you have to log in to the ITR e-filing portal and go to the ‘Services’ tab and click on the ‘Refund Reissue’ button. After this a new webpage will open, click on the ‘Create Refund Reissue Request’ option there. After this, select the ITR for which you want to reissue the refund. After this, select the bank account in which you want to receive the refund. If your bank account is not verified, then first verify it and then go ahead and choose Aadhaar OTP, EVC or DSC to verify.
