India is an agricultural country. A large section of the population depends on agriculture. The government has launched the Kisan Digital ID Card initiative for Indian farmers. This can bring revolutionary changes in Indian agriculture.
The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW) has directed the states to soon create a digital ID for farmers. It has been named Kisan Identity Card. This is a unique initiative of the Central Government. This Aadhaar card of the farmers will be linked to their agricultural records. Let us tell you that Kisan Identity Card is a unique Aadhaar-linked digital ID, which will be linked to the land records of the state. It will include important data like population details, crops grown and information about the owner of the land. It will also record information about the crops sown.
11 crore farmers will get digital identity: According to media reports, the government’s goal is to create digital identity for 11 crore farmers. Out of which 6 crore farmers will be covered in the financial year 2024-25, 3 crore farmers in the financial year 2025-26 and 2 crore farmers in 2026-27. This is the reason why the Center has now directed the states to expedite the provision of farmer IDs. For this, they have been motivated to adopt a camp-mode registration approach.
In this regard, on November 28, the Ministry of Agriculture had sent a letter to all the states. According to a report, the Ministry of Agriculture will create a “Kisan Registry” from the Kisan ID. This will be part of the Agri Stack under the Digital Agriculture Mission of the Central Government. This mission was approved by the Union Cabinet earlier this year.
States will get incentive money from the Central Government : The Union Agriculture Ministry has directed the states to set up camps so that the digital ID of farmers can be prepared quickly. Along with this, the Central Government has announced to give incentive money to the states for setting up camps. In this, a grant of up to Rs 15,000 will be available for each camp.
Apart from this, the Central Government will give an additional incentive of Rs 10 to the state on each farmer ID. This incentive money will be given from the budget of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme. According to information received from sources, the work of making farmer ID is going on rapidly in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Along with this, it is in the field testing stage in Assam, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. In other states, this work is going on in different stages.
