In the year 2021, the Government of India introduced the BH series number plate or Bharat series registration number for non-transport vehicles, i.e. private vehicles across the country. This was done so that working people do not face problems with their vehicles after transferring to different states or union territories. Actually, vehicle owners with Bharat series number plate, or BH series number plate do not need to re-register their vehicle when they reach a new state or union territory. Eligibility or qualification of BH series number plate
BH series number plate is not available for everyone. You can get this plate only if you are an Indian citizen working for the central or state government, bank, defense, administrative service etc. For people working in the private sector, this number plate will be available only if your company has offices in at least four states or union territories.

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, “Vehicle registration facility under Bharat Series (BH-Series) will be available on voluntary basis to defence personnel, employees of Central Government / State Governments / Central / State Public Sector Undertakings and private sector companies / organizations having their offices in four or more states / Union Territories…”
How to apply for BH series number plate
While buying a new vehicle, the owner has to fill Form 60 to apply for BH series number plate along with providing valid proof of employment and ID online. These documents will be verified by government officials before BH series registration is given to the vehicle owner. The vehicle registration number will be allotted to each applicant randomly.
Cost and duration of BH series number plate
Motor vehicle tax will continue to be levied for vehicles registered with BH series number plates for two years or in multiples of two. After completion of 14 years, motor vehicle tax will be levied every year, which will be half the amount charged for the vehicle before that.
Note that vehicles registered with BH series number plates can be sold or transferred to anyone, whether the new owner is eligible for BH series or not. When a BH series vehicle is bought or sold, the buyer must re-register the vehicle at the local RTO to obtain a regional registration number. The new vehicle owner will also have to pay the registration fee and applicable taxes as per the state or union territory rules.
Know what is special about BH series number plate
Each digit or letter on the BH series number plate is meaningful. The first two numbers on the license plate indicate the registration year. The BH written after this means India. The next four digits are randomly assigned by the computer, and the letter of the English alphabet appearing at the end is also randomly assigned, in which ‘I’ and ‘O’ are not used.
