Ayushman Bharat: Registration of senior citizens aged 70 years and above under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana may start within a week. All other senior citizens aged 70 years and above will get a cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per year on a family basis.
Ayushman Bharat : The central government has announced to provide free insurance cover to senior citizens aged 70 years and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana ( AB-PMJAY ). Senior citizens will be able to get treatment up to Rs 5 lakh through this insurance scheme. TOI quoted government sources as saying that registration of senior citizens aged 70 years and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana can start within a week. This new phase will initially be started as a pilot program in selected places, after which it will be implemented across the country.
How to apply
Eligible senior citizens, including those already covered under AB – PMJAY , will have to apply to join the scheme through the Ayushman mobile application or the PMJAY portal. Aadhaar card will be required for age verification and other details. Eligible beneficiaries can avail the scheme immediately after registration and eKYC. The program provides free health insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh annually on a family basis.
Free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh
All other senior citizens aged 70 years or above will get a cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per year on a family basis. Suppose you have a family of five and this includes an elderly member whose age is more than 70 years. In such a case, a total of four members of the family will get health coverage of Rs 5 lakh for treatment and the elderly will get a separate coverage of Rs 5 lakh. The coverage given to the elderly will not be included in the family coverage.
Additional cover
Families who are already covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme will get an additional cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per year for senior citizens above 70 years of age. However, no other member of the family except the elderly member will be able to use it. To avail the benefits of this scheme, you need an identity card, in which you can use Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving license, voter card or any other identity card issued by the government.
