If you have not updated your Aadhaar yet, then this news can prove to be useful for you. The service of updating Aadhaar for free is going to stop on 14 September.
In fact, Aadhaar cards issued more than ten years ago and not updated after that will require identity proof and address proof documents for revalidation. Its last date has been fixed as 14 September. After the deadline is over, UIDAI will charge Rs 50 for any update.
For verification in Aadhaar authentication, it is necessary to submit the Aadhaar number along with demographics or biometric information in UIDAI’s Central Identity Data Repository (CIDR). After this, UIDAI puts its seal on the accuracy of the details based on the information it has.
How to use the free service

- Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and log in using your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Review the identity and address details displayed in your profile.
- If the information is correct, click on ‘I verify that the information provided is correct’ option.
- Select the documents you want to submit for identity and address verification from the drop-down menu.
- Upload the selected documents. The important thing is that before uploading the documents, check that each file is less than 2 MB in size and is in JPEG, PNG or PDF format.
- Review the information and submit to update your Aadhaar details.
Aadhar card controversy, CM Mamata Banerjee involved
In 2024, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had alleged that Aadhaar cards of 50 citizens in Jamalpur in Purba Bardhaman district and several others in Birbhum, North and South 24 Parganas as well as North Bengal had been delinked. In response to Banerjee’s allegations, the UIDAI said that no Aadhaar number had been cancelled. The authority emphasised its commitment to address grievances and maintain the integrity of the Aadhaar database. The Aadhaar card was introduced in India on 28 January 2009. It serves as an identity card in addition to several other documents such as the PAN card and voter ID card.
